Can't get to the engine!

My 89 745 is refusing me access to the engine. When I pull the hood release the passenger side pops but not the drivers. I have tried just about evrything that I can think of. I have to believe that the actual latch is buggered. Anybody know any easy solulions? other than cutting a hole in the hood.
