O/D Switch 140-160 1974

The horse is right. I had one like that on the 164. The switch is made by
Lucas (the Prince of Darkness) and features a copper roller that rolls on a
plastic ramp down to some embedded bronze strips. Sometimes the roller gets
hot and sinks into the plastic and -- Voilá!! The switch is always ON!!
Or it will sometimes sink into the plastic but not far enough to make contact
and then you can't turn it on.
Unfortunately it is of a size that nothing else will fit....
So what you have set up is probably as good as anything.

I'm off for a week to the biggest island in the Caribbean.
Back for a bit a week from Thursday then east to TN and GA.
