Relative safety - a general question

I agree about the ABS. There are times when ABS gives me an advantage (emergency steering under braking) and times when it does not (winter braking when the snow plow effect helps. Also agree with the air bag observations. Overall, though, the newer generation air bags are an asset. For both ABS and airbags, I wish they could be turned off when not desired. Neither of the two hurts reliability with regard to hurting safety so I see them as assets. I think I will move ABS below SIPS though. SIPS and side air bags really help in the T-bone event.

Still, I think an 740 is as good as, say, a modern Taurus or Impala (these are my 3 rides). A new Volvo or MB is, of course, better to be in when clobbered but the increased complexity translates into more breakdowns which translates into a greater risk of getting hit while marooned at the side of the road.

Never thought of the 940 with SIPS and pre-tensioners. Worth considering. Thanks.

Bill
