Maybe not in UK and elsewhere, but in US the O2 sensor began on the B21 with the 1977 California cars, according to my Bosch Injection parts catalog.

The non-CA cars got the O2 sensor in 1980, per the catalog. Although I think it might have been 1979, based on some ECUs I have from that era.
