K-ket with Lambda control is not all "mechanical" as you think. The injectors squirt all the time, but only when air flow is detected.
The amount of fuel "squirted" varies with the amount of air flow detected.
And the fuel mixture that is squirted varies under the control of a rather primitive (by today's standards) ECU — which bases it's mixture control primarily on engine temperature and the Lambda (O2) signal.
Lambda K-jet was/is used world-wide on Audi, BMW, DeLorean, Ferrari, Lotus, Mercedes, Peugot, Porche, Rolls-Royce, Saab, and VW.
