I don't have a radio and am not concerned with RFI interference, etc. I think that a set of solid copper core wires would work best. I don't have the original wires and am tempted, after some investigation, that the 8mm Taylor made ones as suggested by Curtis, sound like the ticket, no pun intended Yogui, and will probably go with the "Hi-Energy Universal" set they offer. Thanks everyone for your input!
