86 240 With a bad starter? 200

I have an 86 wgn with 185k miles and auto trans.. I had the motor-mounts repaced
2 weeks ago.
This Morning, The car started fine. When I shifted to drive, there was a noise like someone was engaging the starter with the car running. A louder noise when I shifted out of park. Shifting back and forth the noise went away. The car started fine after that. Is the automatic trnsmission linkage related to the starter. I'm concerned.
Any Ideas.
