Perhaps.

Some years ago, I had a squeal at startup on cold mornings. Had a spare alt so switched it out. Noise went. May have been bearings, diodes, belts, whatever. Didn't look further. But I think I read on here that alt may squeal from additional load.

Perhaps somebody (Lucid, B.C.?) could confirm.
