Since acquiring the car in 1974, we have added a string of electrical components which include A/C, high powered stereo, 90/100W halogen lamps with extra relays and a 14'pusher fan from a Merc. I plan to transplant an M-41 soon, and also to add on a pair of Hella FF1100 aux. lamps behind the grill, bulbs are 55W a piece. The present alternator is a Mitsubishi unit with built in regulator, replaced in 1995 after the original one went kaput. It gives out 55 amps. As is, everything works OK when all the electrical components are turned on at the same time, but the headlamps dim a little when the A/C compressor kicks in. I have wired the pusher fan to work in unison with the compressor, and it cycles on and off with it. Should I replace the alternator to one with more output before adding on the Hellas? Perhaps from a later 240 that came with all the electrical and electronic gizmos? Many thanks in advance.
