strut spring compressor tool 200

Normally I believe in paying top dollar for good quality tools. But if I know I'll only be using a tool a few times, I'm Scottish (i.e. cheap) enough to consider a less expensive tool. Harbor Freight has spring compressors for $12, which makes them less expensive than even the rentals for that particular tool in this area. I'm curious if any of you have used this tool from them and if there are any horror stories associated with it. It's so low-tech I can't imagine there being anything wrong with it.
