hi,

BC really knows his stuff, pointing out the hostile environment around the battery. The hostility probably jumped a notch when the shorted diodes entered the picture. You still may have an issue there, on the left side, in the parking light circuit.

The wheeze is likely the one way valve in the vacuum circuit to the vent controls. It is the one sticking out of the intake manifold leading to the tiny vacuum line running through the firewall into the cabin. White and black. Pull it off and test it for passing air only one way.
