740 died 700

Hi
My 86 740 GLE died as I got off the freeway today and wouldn't restart. It would crank but not fire. Still had gas in the tank. Almost sputtered to life once. Seemed like a fuel problem. Checked the injector pump fuse, put my finger on the relay and turned the key. Could feel and hear a click from the relay. Crawled under to the pump cradle, put my hand on the pump and had my friend crank it.
I felt no vibvration and heard nothing from the pump. Cheapest price I found is $90 for a rebuilt pump. I was thinking of grabbing one from the junkyard and taking it down to where my car sits and swapping it out so I could get it home. Probably will tow it home tonight as it is getting late. Is it common for the pump to just quit whith no warning? Or could it be the wiring?

thanks
740man
