service manual recommendations 300 1989

I am sure this question gets asked frequently. I tried without success to find an answer in the archives.

I'd appreciate hearing (reading) your recommendations for a service manual covering a 1989 740 GL. I previously owned a 1986 740 GLE, but let the service manual go with the car when I sold it several years ago. The Haynes manual I recently saw apparently covers only to MY 1988. Were there significant changes between 1988 and 1989 740s?

Mine is equipped with an m47 (ughh) tranmission that is already making a bit of noise in 5th gear. I have read the posts about overfilling the fluid, and have changed with Redline MTL and (over)filled.
