disable AC compressor? 700 1987

AC does not work and have no intention of fixing - it's only really hot here in the frozen north a couple of weeks a year. Is there any good reason to remove the belt that drives the compressor? Any good reason not to? I'm thinking gas mileage here even though I guess there is not much draw from a free wheeling pulley. Opinions? Should I get anything bled or discharged?
