strut mount survey-240-1990

I had new strut inserts and mounts installed on my car. Now when I make steep turns, I get a single knock sound. Everything in the front end is good, it has been checked, bushings, ball joints, tie rods etc.

So, the installers think the strut mounts are at fault. The proposed solution is to redo the job, but this time they'll install OEM from volvo(approx 100 bucks ea)

According to the installers, the rubber on the mounts should not bulge upward, but should be relatively flat. The rubber bulges into a mound about 1//2" in height, surrounding the strut stem.

Off the car the mount rubber does not bulge, on the contrary, it is recessed just a bit.

What I need to know is what a newly installed strut mount should look like. Should the rubber retain its uninstalled shape, or should it make a mound.
I cant recall what the old ones looked like before removal.
