Strut assembly for 765 T- spacer at the top? 700

I recently replaced the struts on my '87 760T wagon. Now I have a clunk in the front when hitting bumps. I replaced the radius arm cone bushings, but still have the clunk. No other play is apparent in the front end. If I pull on the top of the tire I get side to side movement in the strut housing. Did I miss a spacer in assembling the strut. The KYB's came with a large spacer washer which I put in the bottom of the strut tube. I assumed for the insert to sit in at the bottom of the strut tube. Is this spacer supposed to go on top to center the strut insert? Is there a picture of the parts assembly somewhere? A parts diagram blow up would be great. Thanks. I have done an archive search, but didn't find a clear answer there.
