more on OD shifting ALL all

I always pick up Car Craft magazine, just to keep the juvenile delinquent part of my brain happy, and saw an interesting product- A laycock overdrive unit from a company called Gear Vendors, with adapters to go on the back of most American transmissions. It appears in the photos to be a J type, or similar. Anyway, the point is that they are capable of handling up to 1200 ft/lbs of torque, and can be used to split gears- for example, drag racers hate the big jump between 2nd and 3rd in a turbo 350, so you can hook up the unit to shift 1-2-2od-3-3od. There is no clutch on a turbo 350, and if these units will handle a 540 cid big block chev on nitrous with 14 inch slicks, I believe we may safely shift our 130 horse Volvo sedans into overdrive without stepping on the clutch.
