I just changed mine out. The right hand end was so worn that there was about 1/16 inch of space all around the shaft. I still had all four speeds. I am guessing that the shaft floated, because when I cornered or hit a bump the noise got worse. I would have to shut it off and start it up again.

I was able to get an aftermarket motor at PepBoys. Isn't there some alternative to the dealer, even in the UK?
