Yes bill, as I look in my trusty Bentley book I see that '86 does have a bulb sensor relay.

My sensor went bad just last month for the Brake lights only. I traced the wires from the brake pedal to the senosor and the brake lights to the sensor, I pulled the sensor off, and soldered wiers directly to the pins on the sensor (basically jumping out the sensor without cutting up any harnesses). That worked for me.

maybe the whole sensor cashed in it's chips. Or if the car was played with, It's missing.

On my '89, it's just above your left knee if you are sitting in the car. unclip the carpeting above your knee and stick your hand up agains the dashboard. In the '89 is a red round can 1.5" diameter x 2.5" long that has a spring clip holding it to the dash.
