Wiper linkage cables 1982

My son has a 1982 Volvo 240. The winshield wipers stopped working, but

we could hear the wiper motor running. Apparently the linkage came apart.

We have a service manual that told us to remove the glove compartment to

get to the linkage. Sure enough, you can see it, but--there was a cam

that had come off a shaft somewhere and loose cables hanging there. They must use a cable and cam system to make these things work. There is no

diagram of how the cables go, or how the cam goes on in the shop manual. The manual says nothing more than remove the glove box to access the linkage. Anyone know how this works??
