Lawrence -- are you talking about an M46 or the automatic? If you've got an M46, don't forget to pull off the bottom plate of the overdrive unit to let the old Dexron drain from there. It's a really messy job (I always get it in my hair and on my glasses) and you'll be surprised how much drains out of the OD unit.

Regarding synthetics, I ran some Redline MTL in my former M46 for 18 months, and Duane Hoberg made some very convincing arguments about avoiding synthetics in the M46. I've gone back to Type F in my replacement M46.
