If you have never changed the oil, then it's due. There is a buildup of dirt and crud inside the passages. There is a solonoid on the drivers side of the overdrive which may need to be cleaned. Make sure the wiring is ok, not frayed, and the OD relay is working properly. It may need to be resoldered. Visit the 700/900 maintnenace FAQ via the link below.
