Re: 940 Questions 900 1991

I'll give a couple of these a shot.

1. Listen to everything on the suspect side of the car. It could be the new radius rod bushing, it could be something else as well, up to and including the tie rod, either inner or outer end. I've had them squeak very loudly before, giving the impression of coming from elsewhere.

2. My dad's 940 has a softer pedal than my 240. In fact, it is quite soft. Both have ABS. But three other non-ABS 240s in the family have somewhat harder pedals without ABS. Clean, flushed brake fluid in several for equal comparisons.

3. While the Volvo cassette player sounds pretty good for a stock unit, especially with the factory EQ, it is still worthless. I've had to throw them all out because although I've never had one die altogether, they all have had intolerable quirks such as that. Often either the wiring for the speakers or the EQ is shot, or the stereo internals are bad. Either way, it has been far cheaper for me to just replace the entire stereo with something good rather than to have it checked into. That is just my story, though... someone else might have other input.

4. Rough idle is more likely from a dirty throttle body or a vac. leak somewhere. Had that both ways before. The IAC problems I've had have been related to idling too high rather than too low/rough. Don't adjust the idle speed or throttle switch unless necessary, after cleaning the throttle body and all of it's ports. It is all in the FAQ :)
