The blue bomber started squealing earlier this week. Here are the symptoms:
- squealing starts when is braking and speed is less than 15-20 MPH, down through stopping
- squealing does not happen when braking and the car is over ~25MPH
- when accelerating from a standstill, there is a different squeal, and not as loud. Applying the brakes eliminates the squealing, lifting the brake pedal causes squealing to resume. Squealing disappears above 25MPH.
Other facts:
- Volvo pads and rotors, pads have about 10k on them and plenty of meat and even wear.
- Calipers are remaned from IPD with about 10k on them.
- Hubs spin freely and make zero noise when manually spun with the tire on. No noticeable wobbling.
I pulled the front brake pads, cleaned everything up, re-greased the pins, pads, caliper contacts as I do with any brake job (ATE brake lube). Everything was good for about 10 miles, and then it all came back with little change, except one new symptom: when driving under 25MPH, turning to the left causes the squealing to get louder, turning turning to the right eliminates the squealing.
My limited experience tells me this is a brake pad / caliper issue, but not sure.
Before I dig into this again, any suggestions to help narrow and remedy the problem?
Thank you.
