Starting pinion seal replacement 700 1989

I'm planning on replacing the pinion seal this weekend. Any tips, pitfalls to be aware of?

I have a piece of angle iron. Do I need to grind a portion of it off to fit the two bolt holes or will it hold the flange in place with onth one hole attahced.


Also is the nut size 1 3/16 inch (30 mm) ? And did you count turns on the nut to get the right torque?
