Over time we all run across annoying problems with our bricks that take for what seems like forever to find. Well over the last few weeks I have had this annoying idle bump. It almost feels like intermittent miss. The engine has also been taking a few seconds to settle down after you first start it up. Idle runs to 1200 and slowly drops to the normal range but with that annoying bump when it is idling. I figured the car needed a tune up. I put on a new cap and rotor, plugs, wires and removed the throttle body for cleaning. I thought the high idle problem was probably a dirty sticking throttle body. Well I found it by accident while cleaning the Turbo hoses, Intercooler and throttle body. While I was disassembling the system to clean it I noticed a smaller hose that I had to disconnect had a wear area on it. This hose runs from the Idle control to the metal pipe that runs between the intercooler and the throttle body. The hose is a little long and was rubbing against the back of the alternator and the wire connectors. Well it rubbed a small hole in the hose. I rapped a piece of duct tape around it as a temporary fix. No more annoying idle problem.
Thus the idle problem will be solved permanently as soon as I get a new hose. Take a look at your system when you get a chance and inspect that hose.
