air horn advice 200

Cheers,

Had an air horn I got at AutoZone a while back installed on previous 83 242.

83 245 wagon needs to announce itself, esp. in urban areas, even at 1.70/$ gal people just going faster, 65 mph not enough in Cleve OH metro area w/o being (illegeal I was told in driver's ed back in 82) passed on the right.

My first air horn worked great but the compressor (italian, FIAMM?) crapped out after a yr. or so due to vibration, salt, overuse....still have the trumpets.

Questions:

where to mount the trumpets? no a/c condenser in way any more. Or should they really be mounted on top of the car (have original luggage rack)?

i really only need a working 12 v compressor, or is it possible to put in something of commercial grade 24 v w/some electronic tinkering. (how to double the voltage just for one device?).

i think 24 vDC would make for a louder horn which is definitely desired, I live near RR tracks and see what their setups look like.

Would appreciate any and all cents' worth.

Safe in OH--Frank
