I have been enjoying the latest addition to my Volvo fleet a new 97 V90. Already have an 87 240 (daughter's) and an 88 740 (mine) which sadly I will have to part with.

Fixing up a few minor problems such as bulbs, door lock on the V90 and getting familiar with it. Over the next few weeks will be doing brakes on all 4 wheels, flushing tranny, change oil and filter (Mobil 1 synthetic all the way), flush coolant, cleaning and detailing.

Have a problem with the ECC system. AC and heat work OK, manual and auto fan speed works OK, as does temp setting. Cannot get any redirection of air. Air only comes out floor vents, no dash vent, or defrost vent. Recirculation light comes on but no apparent change here either. Have checked for vacume source at the point where it goes through firewall and this is OK. The vacume line Y's at this point, goes through 2 plastic one way valves and then connects to 2 splined metal tubes that carry the vacume through the firewall to the underside of the dash, a scary area indeed. I have applied vacume with a small hand operated vacume pump to the metal tubes, one will hold the applied vacume and the other will not. I assume that the various vent servos on the 90 series are vacume operated by solonoids which in turn are controlled by the electronic control module. This problem is not isolated to one particular servo but seems to apply to all servo functions.

I read in the FAQ's that you can get fault codes from the ECC system by following a procedure with the controls, can anyone explain this process? There are no flashing lights upon starting engine.

Any thoughts suggestions or ideas?

Also can anyone suggest a manual for this car. I am reluctant to buy Chiltons and do not think there is a Haynes or Bentleys. Is a Volvo manual my only choice and if so what is a source?
