How do I clean corroded battery connections? 700 1991

I just clicked around the 700/900 FAQ section and couldn't locate the area on battery maintenance. I've already had a no-start situation because the battery connections were so corroded. (Battery itself is OK) This may seem a basic question, but what's the best and safest way to clean off the corrosion? Thanks!
