We just had a distributor leak repaired on our 91" Volvo SE; in the process, they replaced the dist. cap & rotor. We bought the car 4 months ago and have taken several small trips to the coast and the car has run flawlessly. After having this work done, we went to Marin and while heading up a hilly & winding backroad, the engine just died. The service engine light came on as did all the rest of the lights on the dash. At first, it started for a second but shut right down. After several attempts it started & we turned it around and went down the hill; it ran fine all the way to the GG bridge. We went down into the Presidio & came back up zig zagging on purpose and we got the engine to cut out again. The mechanic said the work he did could not have caused it, but he'd check it out; he drove it for two days and finally it happened on flat ground. I asked him about the hill part and his reply was it was going to happen regardless. We paid him for a new fuel pump and relay and headed for home and as we're driving up our hill today, the engine died again. It did start and we feathered the accelerator and made it up the hill. I'm a little frustrated and now realize why you guys try to do most of the work yourselves. Unfortunately, I'm not very knowledgeable about Volvo's and my wife drives this car. I've been a little apprehensive to work on this car; however, I may have to start learning real quick. I can see where these problems can get very expensive as well as inconvenient. If anyone has any ideas......they would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thankyou,
Herb
