I'm in the middle of changing a head gasket on my '93 940 NA, decided to go ahead and get a timing belt and replace it during the process.

Last week, I hit a roadblock trying to remove the pulley so that I could get the timing belt and cover off, but now have the special tool (decided to spend the $ instead of the rope trick.)

So now I am ready to finish the head gasket job, and was planning on doing it tomorrow, but my son had the day off from high school, and decided to work on the car today when I was at work.

Long story short, he did not rotate the timing marks, and removed the pulley and timing belt without consulting me. My research said to rotate the engine and line up the timing marks before removing the belt. My 16-year old did not follow these directions.


What should I do now? He said that nothing moved, but I'm paranoid that something is going to get messed up.

My gut reaction is to put the timing belt on, and then to align the timing marks before removing it again to pull the hood.

Any feedback on this plan? What is the best way to put the belt back on?
