It was a nice day in Nashville today so I took my 1969 164 out for a spin. It started right up and out we went. It backfired once about three miles later. I continued on thinking the Pure gas (97 octane) (half full) was a bit old and I drove to the Pure station about ten miles away to top it up. After filling up I statred back and climbing a hill she sputtered to a stop. I turned it over and it kept starting right up and dying. I checked out the fuel filter and it was clean. I suspect the fuel pump since it didn't get replaced when I had a motor rebuild about 600 miles ago. What do you gurus think it is? If it's a fuel pump should/could I consider an electronic replacement? It's got the original stock mechanical fuel pump now. I don't even know if there are mechanical fuel pumps available these days, if I wanted one.
Thanks all.
