'89 240 sedan, Wheel Bearings? or something worse... 200 1989

Saturday while driving around there suddenly came a loud noise from the rear of the car. My mechanic can't see me until next week so I was going to try and fix it myself. Does anyone know how to make sure it's the wheel bearings and not some other issue? I'm not so familiar with Volvo's as this is my first. I had a 1960 bug for years, but this car is a whole new venture!
