Hello,
I have a 760 Turbo from 1990 and a weird problem.
Fuse #14 blows up. It's the one that controls the circuit with overdrive relay, power windows and roof.
I put a new fuse in, turn on the car, and the fuse breaks. I have looked at as many wires as I could under the dash, took out the disastrous alarm installation work that who knows who did, finding a lot of bare wires and ugly splice work. Cleaned up everything. I didn't make anything worse but I didn't fix the problem either.
But at some points, I thought I had fixed it. Each time I reconnected the battery to try, things were great. No blown fuse, windows were working an all. So I thought I had fixed it and put everything back together, knee bolster, etc. Close the hood, turn the car on and bam, blown fuse. I thought that perhaps there was a short I didn't find and was caused again when I tucked everything in. So I open up the stuff again, let the wires hang out, try again, no cigar and several fuses later I'm at a loss. So I put another fuse in, go to the other side of the car to check out the relays, pull out the overdrive relay, and try again. This time the overdrive arrow doesn't come on, the windows work, and no blown fuse. I hadn't touched the wires on the driver side between the 2 tries. So I felt confident it had to do with the overdrive relay (I had already replaced it a while back, with another used one).
I close up everything again (leaving the relay out), try again, and there you go, blown fuse!
As said, I looked everywhere I could to find weird wiring, shorts etc...but at this point I am not seeing anything else.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the issue on that circuit? I realize it's probably a long shot and it could be a number of things but I just wanted to try before giving it to my Volvo mechanic. I must sell this car soon and so I need to fix this issue asap and not for too much cost...
Thanks!
