Car Selling Advise

Greetings -

I have been trying to sell my car for some time and beginning to get worried. I am moving in one month. I'm not trying to sell it on with this post (That's what a classad is for) I'm just looking for some advise.

The car is an '89 740 GLE 16v wagon w/ auto trans. I don't want it anymore because I've always wanted a car with a manual trans and I want something that will survive a little better in my new homein which it will not be driven very often. It seems like everytime I let this car sit for more than a few days, something breaks. I am also somewhat sick of the lengthy list of things to fix and want something newer, read less broke. I still believe, however, that the car functions very well and I think I have it priced accordingly at $1,000. At the moment all it needs to function properly is an AMM. It has been posted around town and this site's classads for a month with only one serious inquiry.

The other part of the problem is my situation. I'm broke so I can't afford to fix the AMM and I let the plates expire, so nowone can test drive the car. I am willing to take out a loan to by my next car, but not to fix this car because I'm trying to get rid of it.

What should I do? Do I find the money, fix it, and continue to place ads? Am I asking to much? Is there something wrong with this model?

Thanks,

--Aubrey

My plates have been expired since January, so far nothing has happened. I do however plan on taking care of it soon.

You didn't give mileage or what other repairs it needs. Obviously it is overpriced for your market area if you have had no luck selling it yet and have had but one serious inquiry. A non functioning car is not very desirable to a purchaser unless it is real cheap. Say half of what you are asking. If you really really need to/want to sell it then I suggest biting the bullet and cutting price by say 20% each week until it sells. Or replace AMM(with maybe a good used one) and it will sell easier/quicker as a functional car. Help this helps and apologies if I come across as tough.

      used AMM = 35-50$
a running car is easily worth 100$(likely 500) more than a non runnig car
      you do the math.

When looking at cars, i translate wording inteh ads as follows:
needs 1 part to run = needs an engine
needs a tune up = needs at least a headgasket
      and I make offers acordingly.

If somone gets caught test driving it without tags, they can likely talk their way out of the ticket, and almost surely out of impoundment if they are within a few blocks of registerd address. I'd caution prospective buyers, and let them dreive it.
