Experiencing intermittent stalling. Bought a new fuel pump relay but can't figure out where it goes. Book says under drivers kick-panel by hood release but nothing there looks similar.

Is the pump relay the most likely cause? (normally only happens at low rpms(happened 3 times today))

Intermittent stalling does not suggest fuel pump relay to me. I've got to go with the guy who mentioned cleaning the throttle body.

My experience with the fuel pump relays is they fail to let the car start when warm. I have never had one cause the car to stall, that I know of, and almost always they function fine when cold. Sets you up for an embarrassing no start at the post office or the grocery store.

Also, in every instance of faulty fuel pump relays I've experienced, three now, the cause was a "cold joint" at the solder connection between the circuit board and the frame of the relay. The heavy metal frame carries the positive, if I recall, to the relay's coil and the factory apparently didn't get things hot enough soldering the three points, again if I recall, at which it meets the circuit board. Generally, tapping on the relay or twisting the connector would get it to work again early in the failure process, if this is the cause.

You've already shelled out the dinero for the relay, so it doesn't help much this time, even if it is the cause of your travail, but a good hefty soldering iron, like 75 watt or so, and some decent rosin core solder make quick work of sizzling the solder joints to good whetted connections.

I've bought all my heavy irons from antique stores for $10.00 or less, generally NOS, often in the box.

What book gave you that location?

As others said, it's on the right side of the car. But it's clipped to a rail on the firewall, above the passenger's toes (or should be). You have to remove the black felt "hush panel" to access it.

It should not be hanging upside down from the cable, because windshield leaks do happen, and the water follows the wires down into the relay.

It could be a dirty throttle body not allowing it to idle properly. Clean the Throttle body, Idle air control valve and flame trap. Then check idle speed. Dan

Unless it changed pre-89, the relay should be on the RH side, behind the glovebox on the firewall - reach behind the air vent tubing and you'll feel the relay box.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them lower down than that, but on the right side kick panel as you said. If not securely clipped on, use some wire ties or some such. Banging around can't be good for the relay + for the wires/connectors involved.

Hopefully replaceing the relay will cure what ails the car.

Mine are in the same place as Sophie's Maintainer's . They're kind of inline with passenger's shins, behind the carpeting. I pulled one of mine out and there was rust around the terminals and wire connectors. I was able to clean it off with a copper brush and some quick dry electronic cleaner. Stuck it back in and the car purred like a kitten. Replacement may not be required.
