Power Radio Antenna wiring 200

Can anyone explain to me the wiring behind the power antenna? The first owner of my baby removed one when it broke and put in a pull up version. I swapped in a power motor, but have no idea how to hook it up. I understand the green and red wires and have those connected in the trunk, but where are the wires in the front? Also, I have what I think is a power antenna switch, how would I include this?

    My 240s (newest = 1988) are pre-wired like this:

At the radio head unit 9-pin connector there is a red wire that feeds power to the trunk when the radio is turned on. (If I were to install an antenna switch in order to listen to a tape/CD in the automatic car wash, I would put it here.)

In there trunk at the antenna location is a 2-wire connector. The wires are green and black. Your car may have different wire colors. You can test to see which wire is hot when.

One wire is hot all the time, key in or out. In my car that is the green one.

The black wire is hot only when the radio is on.

The antenna unit has a 2-wire connector and a separate ground wire with a ring terminal that goes under the screw that holds the bottom mounting bracket in place.

When both the black and green wires are hot, the antenna extends until it's internal switch senses the end, and the motor shuts off.

When the radio turns off, the black wire "goes cold" and the antenna retracts until that internal switch shuts the motor off.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

Red and green for mine. But you are correct about the loaded and unloaded line. When I connected them, the antenna stayed down, but when i touched the two spade connections together the motor went up. However it stayed up (maybe the motor I bought was no good) when I pulled the two connections apart(unloading one line).

Right now I have the antenna wire from my radio (not factory, so no original 9 pin connector) connected to my amp and sub, so that they only power up when the radio is on. I can run a second wire back there if experimentation proves that the motor works.

Thanks. I was having trouble figuring out how the two connection switch worked with up and down, but your loaded/unloaded thing makes sense.

The radio wiring is such a nightmare. When I put in a new head unit and speakers, I just ran all new lines and left the old harness disconnected and in the dash.

Having a problem following just exactly what you did. Spade COnnectors? None on my 1988 set up.

If the motor goes up, it works. Not going down is a wiring question.

Basically - Connect the ground. Then if the two other wires from the antenna are "hot", it will go up. If the radio-switched hot wire is disconnected, antenna will go down. If the thing won't go down, connect the "hot" wire to the other motor wire. If it still won't, someting else is going on. I dunno.

Is your amp in the trunk? If so, run a wire from the radio "on" terminal to be the radio controlled wire for the antenna.

        Good Luck,

        Bob

Both the red and green wire on the junk yard motor and in the trunk had been cut, so I added a set of spade connectors. When I touched the exposed metal of the connectors together (red and green) the antena shot up. When seperated the antena stayed up.

My plan was to ad a bridge from the amp on to the antena on, so I would have to chase any wires down.

I'll get the volt meter out and see what is going on tonight after work.
