lower my 164 140-160

Now that I've got those big tires on, the car looks too high. Can I use 140 springs to lower it or are they too soft for a 164 ?

KGTrimning sells a set for the 164 that lowers it about 1.5 inches, and looks sweet! Definately stiffens things up...made me feel better about having that wimpy swaybar up front.

If you can find a shop in your area that has a torch you can get a couple of 2 by 4's and cut them to the length that you want to lower the car. Place them between the axle and the body. Heat the springs with the torch and Wallahhh!!!!
instant lowered Volvo. It is cheap and effective. I did that some time ago with an old 142 that I used to autocross. Don't go to low though, it really stiffens up the ride. That was on the rears. At the front I cut one coil or so off and cut the rubber bump stop to match. Have fun.

The wheel arches in front are high - there's not much you can do about that basic fact. I fear that even with lower springs, you'd still have a lot of air over the tires. Still, you should be able to find a ride height that will look 'better' to you. Might need custom springs to do it.

The rear springs on a 164 are equivalent to the rear springs on a 145, for increased roll control.

The difference in weight is mostly in the front, so I don't think it would
make much difference in the rear. I'm using 195-75/15s on mine and it looks
    OK.
