whats going on with my instrument panel & brick? 200

bunch of questions for y'all today, thanks in advance.

so i have been having overheating problems and problems restarting it. so in the last week i have put in a new radiator, coolant temp sensor, and thermostat and everything seemed fine. now a week later my odometer has stopped working (clock, speedometer, etc work) and the temp gauge is fluctuating a lot, running right below the red, and give it a few minutes and it goes back down. doesn;t matter if your in traffic or on the freeway. i check the hoses and radiator and everything seems fine. are these two issues related? after doing some research here, i have ordered a new Odometer Gear from Jeff G. hopefully this will fix the odometer problem, but what do you think the temp issue is? do you htink if i did the IPD temp compesation board kit, it will cure my issues?

1) Temp gauge problems are best solved by tossing the compensator board, then jump Pin #1 to Pin #3. Pin #1 is on the far left as you look at them.

2) Speedometer and/or odometer can be fried by hooking up the red and white wire located back there to the back of your instrument cluster.

Reason: The red/white wire carries mega-volts direct from the ign. coil to signal a tachometer. Never mind that you don't have a tach, the wire is there. If you hooked up that wire to anything but a tach, you probably need a new speedo, maybe a whole new cluster. Been there, done that!

Tie up the wire in a knot and put a tag on it, "TACHOMETER" to prevent future error.

I had the same temp problem and I fixed it by cleaning off the 4 probes or small metal projection that come off the temp compensation board on the back of the instument assembly. For this you will have to take out the dash speedometer assembly---not very difficult. This board that I've mentioned has poor or dirty connections and all I did was scrape them off and reinsert the board. The dirt is really solder flux. Clean the 4 metal probes that attach to the board but aslo clean the holes into which they must insert. If you clean them both I think that that problem will go away. If this works --do let me know. I will appreciate it.

i will let you know after this weekend, when i plan to do this project. if i do just the cleaning i will let you know how it goes, but i think i am going to do the Temp Fix where you jump pin 1 and pin 3 in addition to the cleaning. thanks for the info.

If your temp gauge says it's running hot, give your dash a gentle whack (or jerk the instrument cluster around a little by the bottom), and see if the temp goes down.

If it does go down, it's probably the little temp board in the cluster. I would either do the bypass (as mentioned somewhere in this board), reseat the board, or change the board out when you are in there replacing the odometer gear.
