120 wagon exterior chrome trim removal at base of windows - help 120-130

I would like to remove the flattish chrome trim pieces that run along the base of the side glass (the base of the door windows and wagon side window) - to check for rust. I attempted to wedge them upwards and off, but they are connected very well and I do not want to break anything. I do intend to put them back.

Is there a technique and/or a special tool?

thanks.

They push IN towards the window, and then the inside edge comes UP. Takes quite a lot of force to overcome the spring tension of the clips -- it's easier with two people.

Under the rim is not an area that typically rusts, though.

Thanks. I am going to repaint the car, and thought I should remove these pieces. With the wagon, I understand that body rust can start under the trim piece along the base of the wagon side window. I think water leaks into the holes where the clips joing the trim to the body, and rust starts in a very nasty spot to try to fix.

Thanks, Waggin.

You're right. I've had the problem with 2 '66 models.
Once I got it painted I installed the rear strips with silicone sealant
and made sure it got all the way around. (wonder what it will be like to
take them off next time....)
btw if you find a source for the springy clips that hold the chrome down
in the rear side windows, I'd sure like to know!

George,
I have seen them on ebay quite often at a pretty good price. Also, Swedish Treasures has them at the going rate.
