electrical ghosts- is it the wiring harness? 200

I was out of town for a week, and when I was driving home from the airport my stereo started turning off, then on, then off again repeatedly. It's continued, and it seems to happen mostly when I'm breaking, and when I'm stopped(although not always- sometimes while I'm accelerating, or just cruising). At stoplights, it flickers on and off, and occasionally my speedometer needle jumps up and down.I haven't noticed any other electical problems- although sometimes I notice that when I flip on my blinker, the stereo shuts off- it could just be coincidental though. I've got a fairly powerful sound system in the car (a 1990 4 door 240 sedan by the way) but this seems to be more than just loose wiring or something. any suggestions?
thanks

Agree with Mbliss - start with fuses. If you get your eyeball down close there, you may see a grey/white powdery deposit on the copper fuse holder tabs right where they contact the fuse ends. This corrosion will eventually give intermittent continuity. Turning the fuses in their holders is the temporary fix; removing fuses and wire brushing the copper tabs, and replacing fuses with new ones is the long-term way. Disconnect the battery first!

Shouldn't be the famous rotten wire harness problem of the earlier models. It does sound like it could be a loose wire though, especially if it mostly happens when changing speed ... how about if you hit a bump? I'd check the wires to the radio first and twiddle the fuses to make sure you've got good contact there.
