Shouldn't be the famous rotten wire harness problem of the earlier models. It does sound like it could be a loose wire though, especially if it mostly happens when changing speed ... how about if you hit a bump? I'd check the wires to the radio first and twiddle the fuses to make sure you've got good contact there.
