Engine swap from K-jet to B-23f 200

I just picked up an '84 wagon with a very nice motor and was curious how much trouble it would be to put into my '78 242. Is it worth the effort or just another of my hair brained ideas. Please help me decide. Thanks Bill

It is doable if you have the time or space for the engine swap. You should be able to do a direct swap for everything. Now for the tranny (if it is a AW70/71) you may have to drill mounting holes in order to allow for the tranny mounting bracket that is moved back. Enjoy the swap & Good Luck!

I will be using the manual tranny and be converting to the push button O/D. Is that a big deal or straight forward?

It should be a straigh-foward swap. The more time you can set aside (dont rush the swap), the more attention to detail you do, and the more careful you are removing the parts will give you a great swap. Take your time in reading about all the components that would need to be transfered over. Take you time labeling all the wiring that you will need. In the end you will end up with a trouble-free swap that will give you many more happy years of driving.

When I did the BW55 (3-Speed AT) to a M46 (4-Speed + OD MT) swap on my 79 264GL I did so much reading and research that by the time I was ready for the tranny swap I was kind of sick and tired of doing the swap over and over in my head. In the end I ended up with a trouble-free and stock looking M46 setup that gets lots of attention, when I point it out. Best Of Luck!

        Sincerely,
