I recenlty purchased this 1990 745 Turbocharged Volvo. I have put my first 3000 miles on since I got it(we changed the oil the day I picked it up). Now I am doing my first oil change and am almost done when I notice this sticker on the Air/Air heat exchanger that the intake air flows through. It says to FOLLOW INSTUCTIONS ON OIL CHANGE AND FILTER CHANGES IN THE OWNERS MANUAL OR YOU MAY SHORTEN THE LIFE OF YOUR TURBO/ENGINE. I dont have the owners manual :(.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO THATS DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER ENGINES I'VE CHANGED
THE OIL ON?

    If your using mineral oil than I wouldn't push it too far past 3000 miles with the turbo. If you use a good synthetic you can change it at the recommended 5000 mile oil change interval. There isn't a better oil filter than the Volvo/Mann oil filter. Yes your OCI is 5000 miles according to the manual.

    Nothing: ignore it.

    For very long life, use a good synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 5W-30 (winter) or 10-30 (summer) and DON'T buy the wide range 5-50 Castrol. Change it at 5,000 miles. Use a Mann or Volvo oil filter, not a Fram or local version. Use a copper washer on the drain plug and do not overtighten. See the 700/90 FAQ under "features" button for advice.

      Cool, thanks for the tip to ease my mind :).

      I'm in texas and the winters are mild we're still seeing 80's and a few 90's Its not likely to freeze till January usually. Thanks for the tip on Synthetic, I'm using Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50, will change to 5w-30 next time I change the oil, which should be the beginning of "winter" in texas.

        hi there my 85 turbo book says change oil and filter at 3,750 miles. that is probably with dino oil. i use syn mobil one and it is reccomended here to use synthetic in a turbo. good luck
