Removing B18 engine 120-130 1967

Any tips for removing the engine & transmission to avoid the typical rookie mistakes. I would like to remove both at the same time using a quality motor hoist.
Thanks
Allen

remove the tranny x-member so that you can swing it low at the back. speaking of which I find it easiest if I raise the front of the vehicle on jack stands so that I can achieve the angle of dangle neccesary to pull the whole thing (especially if there is an overdrive) It was almost perpendicular at one point. Otherwise some hoist are easier to reposition the chain on then others, the B18 comes out nicely iof you repo a 3 times during the pull. ie., kind of horizontal pull it forward a bit, more vertical pull it up and forward a bit, very vertical straight up, and depending on your set up maybe jsut lift the tranny to clear the car.

      Ha ha!

      "angle of dangle"

      That's great!

So cool to read the bb and have the occasional funny terminolgy jump off the screen.

      Thanks Patrick

Make sure to remove the shifter handle 120-130 1967

SAFETY: Double bolt all chain attachments to the engine. NEVER get between the engine and where it might fall or tilt, this includes reaching along side the engine to get some forgotten connection. If necessary, lower the engine and block inplace before reaching in.

Also, more than once I've had to undo the shifter handle that hung up as the engine was coming out.
Also be sure to put your radiator someplace very safe and out of the way.
Antifreeze will spill out as you tilt the engine back. Have mopup ready.
Put alignment marks on before you remove the hood. Remove the hood.
Grab the tailshaft when it's free and lift over the fender.
Don't raise the engine so high that the tailshaft can swing into the windshield.

    Have someone check on you.

Not necessary to remove the hood on an Amazon. Yes necessary to remove the section of the body that holds the hood latch. By all means remove the shift handle before unbolting anything else.

Just unhook everything and you'll be fine I'd say.

    Thinks that might be overlooked:
-groundcable connected at the right side of the bellhousing
-reverse light switch at back of gearbox
-temperature 'feeler' at the back/top of the block
    -oilpresure sensor wire

You might want to take of the distibutor to prevent damage.

For the rest, it's pretty straight forward.

    Cheers, Ben
