Got my parts now, one more? S90-V90

I gotta ask this, can the cam belt be put on backwards? Is this the reason for marking the direction of the belt with an arrow to indicate belt travel?
The belt tensioner has somekind of a plastic top on it doesn't it and it must hit a point on the tensioner pulley to put pressure on the belt , is this right? What da know got two questions in.
Thanks again.

Yes the belt as it comes out of the box can be installed in either direction. But if mark the old and new belt with new timing marks you need to know which direction the old belt was traveling after you remove it. It makes things easier. I marked between the two cams because its always easy to see.

The little plastic piece on top of the tensioner is used for alignment. my old tensioner did not have one but the new one did. So the job can be done with or without. I left the new one in there because it doesn't seem the hurn anything.

After installing the new tensioner remember to let the car sit for 10 to 15 minutes to make sure the tensioner is fully extended before you try to turn the engine over by hand. Otherwire the belt might slip.

That white plastic disc MUST be installed on the tensioner piston after you release the pin. It is a safety device to support the tensioner pulley if the tensioner itself fails. The disc will keep some tension on the pulley so that the T-belt doesn't come off.

That little plastic cap is a rest for the tensioner pulley, if the tensioner itself looses its pressure, the plastic cap is to provide a little time before self destruction. Read that somewhere in one of my manuals.
