Distributor Swap - Continued 444-544

I got a replacement used distributor for the vacuum retard that was sent the first time and almost everything looks OK but.....
It is a JFUR4 - 026. Using the IPD catalog, and talking to them, they don't list an 026 distributor for any Volvo so this might be from a VW, or Porche, etc.
Does anyone know if this distributor will work OK in a 73 B20? It gets me wondering if the vacuum advance is different in some way or if there are other differences in the way it works?
I can see a set of points in the IPD catalog that looks the same but then there is more guessing on the other parts. (condensor, rotor, cap)

My 121 (B18A 1 carb ZS175cd) uses that 026 carb (from factory). I understand it was no included on US models (its curve for economy, not power, and also is smoggy). I convert mine to electronic due local (and US) unavailability of points. It's vacuum advance. On http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/bosch.htm I see a US available Pertronix conversion for the 026.

Thanks Joaquin, I supplied the guy who sold me the 026 with your info and sent it back. I found someone else who sells rebuilt Bosch distributors, tested and with a one year warranty but he wants to know which distributor I want. Unfortunately, I don't know what to tell him yet.

I suggest try any one that IPD sells points, condenser and cap... (http://www.ipdusa.com/images/categories/RearWheelDrive/tuneupkitchart.jpg)
What is the best on your case?...no idea.

I am happy with my cast iron centrifugal advance unit, sorry but I don't have the number on hand (I think it was JFR4 but don't depend on my faulty memory). Try to avoid the vacum retard units, I have heard they don't offer as much performance.

Is this one vacuum, or just centrifugal? If vacuum advance -- vacuum pulls breaker plate CW -- it's not from a VW or Porsche. Those spin the opposite direction, so that would be retard to them, which I've never seen on one of those cars.

Is JFUR4 - 026 the code on the Bosch data tag? Odd number. You see a part number 0 231 146 026 anywhere?

This particular item looks like a B-18A distributor by what I see in the Volvo/GCP Parts catalog. Is it vacuum advance?. I didn't catch that part. The distributor drive for VWs (air and water cooled) is different so that should be ruled out.

I don't have the numbers for total advance (centrifugal) at whatever RPM, but, a good distributor shop should be able to tailor the springs and bob weights to your needs.

That's what I see.

It is a JFUR4, 0231 146 026 and yes it is vacuum advance (pulls the breaker plate CW)
The points are the type that are on the IPD kit # IK101 that goes on a 058 distributor.
I tried the Bosch website for info. but didn't find anything

Bosch website is useless. Many of the parts for these distributors are just now becoming difficult as hen's teeth to find. Five years ago...

In any event, Lots of the bits can be sourced from the other models of distributors. Junkyards if nothing else.

Just went through the great hassle of rebuilding my JF4U-33 and ended up having to gut a FI dizzy for a couple of the necessary wear items.

FYI VW used many many different types of distributor in the learning years of emissions including units that had BOTH vaccum advance and retard!

Mike!
