200 Series Gas Can 200

I have a "1/2 round" gas can that fits the extra spare tire well on the 200 Series cars. It hold about 1.5 to 2.0 gallons and is red with the Volvo emblem stamped in the top. It in excellent shape but needs to be repainted. This is the only one I have ever seen. Can anyone tell me if this is a common item and how much it might be worth?

    They do show up from time to time on ebay but the last one I saw was over a year ago. Ebay is a good price gauge but condition is important. Wouldn't recommend it to carry fuel but a nice touch in a restoration, especially to replace the usually warped cover in most 240's.     My sense is that past ebay sales have generated a moderate demand and moderate prices--$40 or so? But as the previous poster says, you can keep an eye on the current sale.

    Collecting aside, and focusing on practicality, this always struck me as a weird and poorly thought out item. This is the last place you want to keep gas (if I recall, some Chevy pickups tended to burst into flames because of an auxiliary gas tank inside the front fenders) and it seems to clash sharply with Volvos safety images and practices.

    Lee, I've seen one of these red gas cans in a 164E in the junkyard once. I would have salvaged it, but it was rusted through w/ a hole. I thought this was a cool item!
