Rear Wiper 240 Wagon 200 1990

The rear wiper on my 240 Wagon does not function on intermittent setting - it moves only a little bi when it is supposed to sweep. The regular and high speed settings work. Howeve, on intermittant and regular settings, the wiper arm does not return to the normal down position automatically. Is this likely the motor, the switch, or the relay? Is removing and replacing the wier motor and linkage assembly from the rear door difficult to do? Thanks for any help!

I had the exact same problem. Its probably the wiring that goes through one of the hinges.

As I recall, I fixed it by taking the head liner off (very easy once you know how) and the cover off the hatch. Then I cut out the section of wire at the bend. I soldered extensions on the wires where it attached to the wipers. That gave me enough of the original wire to pull bach up through the hinge. I wanted to use the original wire at the flex point because I figured it was made to flex.

As I recall, the job took me the better part of a day but I am slow. Didn't cost a cent in parts though.

One thing you will be amazed at is how stinking sticky the black stuff they cram into the hinge is. I tell you it is the stickiest calking I have ever ever seen. You will know what I mean after you finish the job.

Good luck. Write me any time. darbuckles@aol.com

For the wiper to make that last sweep and stop in park position, there has to be a constant power connection.

When the user controlled stalk switch is turned off, the constant power allows the motor to continue until a switch inside the motor is tripped.

Both wires to the motor go through the right side hinge. The wire in question is black. Look down into the hinge looking for any broken wires.

    Good Luck,

    Bob

IPD sells the replacement harness (relatively) inexpensive - $20 +/-. Although I haven't quite tackled the task of installing them on my 245! Feeding the wires through the hinge appears to be quite difficult. I'm considering bypassing the hing altogether.
