The 1800ES I drive has the dreaded BW35 automatic transmission. It has worked well, within its limits, until yesterday. About a mile from work I took off from a stop light and it would not shift out of first gear. I drove slowly, keeping the revs below the redline, and made it to work. The fluid was low, so when I left work I added some Type F fluid. The problem didn't go away. I live less than 10 miles from work, and the driving is all in town, so I decided to try to make it home, going slow. After a couple of miles it would shift into second, but the shift was rough. This morning I added a bottle of Lucas transmission additive and took it around the block. It never went out of 1st. If I have the the shifter in 2nd or 3rd it will take off in 1st, but then seems to slip. I think it is actually engaging the other gear but they are slipping. I would like to keep this thing running for another two months, and plan to put in a 4 speed with overdrive this summer. Any hope of making that happen?
